Our Candidate Evaluation Framework

A peek into the hiring framework we use to assess candidates.

We’re making our hiring rubric public.

This series of articles contains the same hiring expectations that our interviewers use to assess candidates. These hiring expectations serve as a description of Blueberry’s ideal engineer.

Why

We are hiring. More on that in a moment.

Much of our hiring process has been inspired by Oxide’s RFD#3. Oxide learned that transparency benefits everyone in the hiring process. Candidates learn if they’re the right fit for a company. Interviewers are calibrated to look for engineers who share common values. The hiring manager gets to work with a pool of applicants who, generally, have self-selected as culturally/technically aligned.

Job descriptions are often full of well-meaning platitudes that don’t say much. Instead, we’re sharing the real hiring rubric our team uses. We hope this gives you a clearer, more honest view of what we value — and whether we’re the kind of team you’d like to join.

If you find you have overlapping cultural and technical values, we encourage you to apply.
